Diamonds are the rarest of all gemstones.
FICTION
Diamonds are in fact very rare, but not quite the rarest. Due to its limited number of deposit sources, Tanzanite is actually a thousand times rarer than diamonds.
Diamonds are available in different colors.
FACT
When people think of diamonds, they usually picture the classic, colorless gem that radiates brilliance. But modern jewelers offer diamonds in a variety of colors. The most intensely colored gems are referred to as “fancy diamonds.” Colored diamonds are available in shades of red, canary yellow, deep yellow, chocolate brown, evergreen, blue, rose pink and black.
Diamonds are indestructible.
FICTION
Diamond began to form in the earth 3.3 million years ago and is one the hardest natural materials known to man. It ranks a perfect 10 on the Mohs hardness scale. They are resistant to most acids and alkalis. However, they are not completely indestructible.
Diamonds are not fireproof.
FACT
Although you would need pure oxygen gas and a torch, diamonds can be burned. We don’t suggest trying this!
The crown of a diamond is any smooth, flat face of a cut stone.
FICTION
The crown of a diamond is the visible upper part of the stone containing the table facet, located above the widest part of the cut stone.
