Sierra Bailey has always had an eye for design, even if she didn’t yet realize it. She has always been creating jewelry of some kind or another. Check out her amazing story below and meet our LC DIY Expert!
Conformity Breeds Creativity
Some kids might have lemonade stands. Sierra Bailey had friendship bracelets. Attending boarding school, she spent her summers building mountains. Sierra crafted mountains of incredible friendship bracelets. Each one stood up to the sameness of her school year. Sierra also learned that she had a voice. A voice that others would listen to when it spoke. Her early designs were a hit were her classmates, who were also seeking an outlet from the drudgery of uniforms. Sierra built a small enterprise selling these unique treasures to the girls at her school. But more importantly, a seed was planted. A seed that would bear fruit later in her life.
Sierra Bailey: Creator and Entrepreneur
Sierra received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Syracuse University of New York. For a time, she also pursued painting full-time. Despite her love of color and creativity, she found that painting may not have been her true calling. Thinking back to her boarding school days and her love of making handmade jewelry, Manic Trout was born. Sierra Bailey began selling her unique and fun designs through her website, quickly winning her notice. She began appearing in countless fashion blogs and even made it to the runways of Austin Fashion Week and LA Fashion Week.
Sierra’s creations have appeared in print many times. Over 60 national magazines have featured her designs, including publications such as WWD, Marie Claire, InStyle, Lucky, Southern Living and Redbook. Also, her designs have been shown on television. They’ve appeared on characters from the hit series Criminal Minds and Gossip Girl.
Her expertise continued winning her notice. Appearing as a guest, Sierra has been on both Studio 512 and World News Tonight with David Muir. Sierra Bailey has also been sought after for her expert advice. She’s written for magazines such as Figure and Austin Woman. Also, she’s provided insight for numerous blogs.
A Colorful Life
Her love of color, whimsy and the belief that women should let their individuality shine through in their style are her greatest inspirations. Sierra Bailey lives in Austin, TX with her husband, Adam and their sassy rat terriers, Faye and Mora.
