It’s January and the weather is fierce. Staying inside with your special someone is fun, but it might get old after a while. There’s only so many episodes of your favorite show you can watch in a row before you start re-evaluating your life. Just because it’s freezing outside, it doesn’t mean there’s not any enjoyable dates you can have! Don’t believe us? Here are some of our favorite winter date ideas!
This should be a given, but if you haven’t already gone ice-skating with your significant other, what are you waiting for? A frozen pond outside the city is a very romantic location. If you’re not fortunate to have one nearby, find an ice-skating rink. A rink that offers adults-only nights will make the date even more romantic. Those rinks will usually dim the lights and play music that doesn’t inspire poking out your eardrums with a skate.
Attend a Hockey Game
You don’t have to be a sports fan to have fun at a hockey game. Everyone enjoys live, fast-paced action mixed with a little fierceness. If you’ve never gone to a hockey game, look up the rules online before you go. That way, you’ll look knowledgeable and have something to talk about just in case. Even if there’s not a National Hockey League team in your area, there may be a minor league, college or even a high school team.
Indulge Your Sweet Tooth
Winter is perfect for warm drinks and s’mores. Turn your kitchen into a hot chocolate cocktail bar by grabbing packets of hot chocolate mix, hot water, and whipped cream. Liven it up by stocking the bar with mini bottles of different liqueurs like peppermint schnapps, Bailey’s, Kahlua, vanilla vodka or Chambord. Sweeten the deal by making s’mores. Use the stove if you don’t have a fireplace. Winter and sweets go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Enjoy the Wilderness
We don’t mean you and your love should go strike up a conversation with a grizzly bear (that’s a bit much). Instead, embrace the season by taking a long drive and renting a lake house or cabin. Bundle up and go on a romantic hike. Be sure to leave your laptops at home and turn off your cell phone for most of the weekend. Having more face-to-face interaction will make the trip more personal.
Kick it up a notch with this winter date idea. It’s a perfect date for adrenaline junkies or people who like getting active. Whether you’re a pro or a beginner, this type of activity will show off your adventurous side. It’s also fun if both of you are learning at the same time. It will make for great memories and a good laugh.
Build a Snowman
This is a fun activity, whether you’re on a date or not. It will pluck the nostalgic heartstrings. Don’t forget to acquire all the appropriate accessories: carrot, scarf, coal for the eyes, mittens, long sticks for the arms, and a top hat. A bucket and shovel will help with packing the snow.
Now that you realize there’s more to do during the winter than watch copious amounts of television with your loved one, go out and make fun memories! What is your idea of the perfect winter date?
