What is Classic Blue?

Pantone is ‘an iconic name in the fashion, product, graphic design and lifestyle-oriented industries.’ Each year, the company researches global color trends to identify new color influences.

By December, Pantone announces the new Color of the Year, which reflects current trends and serves as a representation of our society.

Pantone says the Color of the Year is “a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.”

The Pantone Color of the Year 2020 is Pantone 19-4052, also called Classic Blue. According to Pantone, “Classic Blue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation as we move into a new era. It represents peace, tranquility, and resilience. The color is non-aggressive and relatable, which lends itself to relaxed interaction.”

There are many ways to incorporate Classic Blue into your wardrobe, including jewelry! Here are five must-have blue gemstones.

 Ceruleite

Ceruleite Ring in Sterling Silver

An opaque, eye-clean gemstone that appears sky blue to pale blue. It is frequently mistaken for turquoise. It’s a rarity even among collectors. This vivid gem is a great way to incorporate a spot of blue into your wardrobe.

Neon Apatite

Malgache Neon Apatite Pendant Necklace

A bright blue gem that glows like a neon sign, neon apatite is rarely seen in jewelry, making it a collector’s stone. Its intensely saturated color is perfect for this 2020 trend.

Indicolite

Indicolite Ring in White Gold.

Also known as indigolith, meaning blue stone, this pleochroic stone displays shades of blue from rich indigo to aqua. This eye-clean gem is a subtle way to add this color to your look.

Kyanite

BALI LEGACY Kyanite, Catalina Iolite Pendant in Sterling Silver

From the Greek word ‘kyanos,’ meaning blue, kyanite draws comparison to Ceylon and Kashmir sapphire. This gem is a vivid, royal blue. A slightly deeper shade, this stone is a regal take on the trend.

Blue Topaz

London Blue Topaz 5 Stone Ring in Platinum Over Sterling Silver

Occurring in three distinct hues, blue topaz is great for finding your favorite shade.

  • London Blue Topaz is an intense dusty blue with inky undercurrents.
  • Swiss Blue Topaz resembles high-quality aquamarines due to similar color.
  • Sky Blue Topaz is the fairest of the three, with a gentle, heaven kissed hue.
