Fashion Week Spotlight: LucyQ

Shop LC has been revealing new brands and designs all week in honor of Fashion Week. Today we are excited to announce another brand available to our LC customers — LucyQ by Lucy Quartermaine.

LucyQ Designs feature stunning pieces of silver handmade jewelry. Every piece is a twist of excitement that can be worn with pride. Lucy Quartermaine is one of the UK’s top award-winning contemporary jewelry designers and silversmiths. Her dynamic range of inspirational creations offers a quirky and modern twist to traditional jewelry designs. We were able to sit down with Lucy to hear her journey and how she ended up pursuing her passion. Here’s what she had to say:

How long have you been in this industry?

I’ve been in the jewelry industry for 10 years. It started off as a hobby for the first 5 years, but it has really grown in the last 4-5 years.

Where did your passion for this line of work come from?

It started when I was about nine. My grandmother used to make jewelry. She would encourage me to make jewelry from buttons, strings and yarn whenever I’d stay over. I’ve always known that I wanted to be a jewelry designer. My Button Collection was actually inspired by my time with my grandmother.

What is your process for creating one of your original designs?

It starts with the inspirations, which I get from anywhere. Everyday things are my inspiration. I see something I like, and then I start drawing to get the flow going. Afterwards, I start making the jewelry designs by hand.

What is important to look for when designing jewelry?

Comfort is a huge thing. Each piece needs to be made with the highest level of quality. I want people to feel good and love the jewelry they are wearing. I try to design jewelry for everyday life, but I also want the designs to turn heads when people wear them. It should be easy to wear and unique.

What is your favorite part of this job?

I love to receive emails and comments from customers about how much they love their LucyQ jewelry. I also love seeing pictures of them wearing it.

Describe your personal collection of jewelry.

I wear my own jewelry, but I also like to wear jewelry that my friends design. Being in this industry, you meet a  lot of others that do the same thing, so sometimes we swap pieces and wear each others creations.

What makes your jewelry designs unique from others?

I design and create from the heart. I sometimes get my inspiration from mother nature, such as the movement of water. My designs are big and bold because I want to make a statement with my jewelry.

What kind of products will you be showcasing at the LC?

I’ll have a bit of everything! One of my collections, the Dip Collection, was inspired during my time at the university. I was watching icicles melt and thought it looked interesting, so I’m really excited to show that collection tomorrow. This is the first time my jewelry will be sold in the U.S., and I’m very excited to bring my designs to Shop LC.
