National High Five Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of April. The day is taken as an opportunity to give a ‘high five’ or appreciate the actions of others. National High Five Day has its humble origins with the University of Virginia. One day, in 2002, a group of students spent the day giving passerby high fives. It’s just a nice way to say that, “Hey! You are doing a great job!”
Shop LC is proud to partner with organizations like Akshaya Patra, No Kid Hungry and Handbags for Hope through the Texas Advocacy Project. The contributions and consistent efforts of these organizations have made a significant change in the world for the better.
Akshaya Patra: Unlimited Food for Education
Akshaya Patra is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2000 with a vision to counter malnutrition while supporting the education of children. The organization runs a Mid-Day Meal Program that focuses on providing fresh and nutritious food to school children every single day. With the help of the government, corporate and individual contributors, Akshaya Patra has been operating successfully across 12 states in India, serving around 1.76 million children!
The organization has its kitchens laced with hi-tech cooking techniques and equipment that prepare fresh and wholesome food every day. With a mission to feed 5 million children by 2015, the organization is making continuous efforts to reach out to the maximum number of children. Shop LC has a close association with Akshaya Patra as their efforts align with our Purpose of Delivering Joy. Akshaya Patra deserves a ‘high five’ for its unmatched initiative.
No Kid Hungry: Help Feed Hungry Kids
No Kid Hungry is a campaign started in 2010 by the non-profit organization ‘Share Our Strength.’ The campaign is dedicated to eradicating childhood hunger in the United States. Comprising of multiple programs like Healthy School Breakfast, Free Summer Meal, Afterschool Meals and Food Skill Education, the initiative makes sure that every kid gets healthy and nutritious food in every meal of the day.
Focusing on children’s nutrition requirements, the program is one of the fastest growing campaigns that counters hunger and poverty in the country. The pathbreaking statistics proves the necessity and success of the campaign. Partnering with such and initiative helps in reaching our goal to serve the communities in which we operate. We give a ‘high five’ to No Kid Hungry for its dedication to uplifting the community.
