Every Christmas, I like to reflect and count my blessings as I am with my family. I have been with Shop LC for a little over a year, and I wanted to reflect on my Top 3 moments in my career in 2018.
CRAZY RICH AUSTIN
As we all know, “Crazy Rich Asians” was released this year and centered around an Asian-American woman learning to fit into a “Crazy Rich Asian” family based in Singapore. This film had been acknowledged as a major milestone in the Asian-American community for being the first major film featuring an all Asian cast since the Joy Luck Club in 1985.
To celebrate, the Austin Asian American Film Festival (AAAFFF) hosted “Crazy Rich Austin” – a night market event that showcased local Asian designers and leaders. I loved how vibrant and supportive Austinites are! Plus, I even got to see an exclusive screening of the movie a week before it was out. I enjoyed the film so much I went in and watched it again in theaters!
INTERVIEW WITH DIONNE
When I entered the company as an intern, Dionne was on-air hosting on my first day. As I grew more comfortable with publishing content under my name, I began to reach out to other people outside my department to write more creative content. The first host to agree to an interview was none other than Ms. Dionne Ross herself! It felt like a full-circle moment when we sat down in the green room to record the interview as we both reflected on our journeys at Shop LC. I remembered feeling so welcomed by her and loved learning interior design and fitness tips from her. We even talked for a few hours after the interview ended. To this day, she still greets me whenever we cross paths.
FASHION X (ROAD TRIP)
I have to give a shout out to the Fashion X Road Trip event as the tenth annual Fashion Week in Austin! This was the first fashion show I have ever attended, and it made me fall in love with supporting local events even more! I enjoyed admiring all of the fashion designers and seeing how they interpret the “Road Trip” theme to their own creations. This fashion event was so experimental and so inspiring that it made me feel more comfortable in wearing more eccentric outfits anywhere and everywhere.
I am so thankful for both my family and my Shop LC family this year. Merry Christmas, and I am so excited to see what 2019 brings. What are you celebrating this holiday season?
