It’s officially that time of year. The leaves are changing to vivid colors, crisp air is blowing through the trees, and it’s perfectly acceptable to drink a pumpkin spice latte every morning. Who are we kidding? It’s always acceptable to drink a pumpkin spice latte! Anyways, back to the task at hand: scarves! These cozy accessories are a fall must-have. Not only do they provide functionality during the colder seasons, but they can also give your outfit a polished look! Here are four ways to wear a scarf, and we even included style tips for each type. What are you waiting for?! Let’s get started!

The Classic Loop

The classic loop is perfect for any occasion. Pick your scarf up loosely to create natural folds in the fabric. Wrap the scarf around your neck a single time, and then tug at the loop you’ve created to drape it over your chest. Easy!
To really make it stand out, select a bold color or print. The multi-colored style allows you to wear it as if it was a statement necklace. Wear your stylish scarf with a plain sweater and a pair of your favorite boyfriend jeans or simple blue skinnies. Check out our Jeans Guide to discover which fits you better!

The Infinity Scarf

An infinity scarf is a large, closed loop of fabric that appears to go on for an infinity (duh!). It is very popular because it can be worn in a variety of trendy ways. If you own a scarf that you love, but it’s not an infinity scarf, don’t fret! Lay the scarf out flat on a smooth surface. Fold it in half and tie each set of corners together to create a large loop. Then, wrap the scarf around your neck, multiple times if necessary, so that no loose ends are left dangling down.

This classic style looks great with almost any fall ensemble because it gives the outfit layers. If you’re wearing it with an open jacket, don’t do the second loop. It gives off a more relaxed feeling, but still provides enough volume to keep you cozy. If you’re sporting a buttoned up coat or jacket, go ahead and do the second loop. The scarf will be fuller on top, and your look will certainly be New York chic!

The European Loop

Also known as the buttonhole tie, this look is very elegant and stylish. Use an oblong scarf, then fold it to form a sort of hoop. Let the scarf dangle around your neck with the hoop on one side of the shoulder. Take the other two ends and pass them through the hoop to make the European Loop.

You can easily adjust how tight it is by pulling on the scarf, which is perfect for really cold mornings! This scarf style looks really posh when you wear your hair up with big earrings such as these gorgeous papaya quartz ones!
The Vest

Don’t limit your love for accessories to just your neck. Try this nifty tutorial to turn your scarf into a vest! Choose a long scarf in order to give yourself more fabric to work with. Fold the scarf in half lengthwise. Now grab the top two corners of your folded scarf and tie them in a small knot with the least amount of fabric possible. Open your folded scarf and you should see two arm holes. Now go ahead and slip your arms right through!

If you like sweater vests, choose a scarf with a thick material. Knitted or crocheted scarves are ideal! But if the weather isn’t quite that cold yet, look for a scarf made of thin fabric such as silk. Check out our collection of silk scarves for inspiration! To really make this vest a show-stopper, add a belt to your waist. It will tie your outfit together and give your body shape.

Fall weather is scarf season, so use this stylish accessory to embellish your office style or to update your classic outerwear. Now that you have the basics down, the options are endless! Check out our wide collection of fashion scarves.
