Spooky season is here, and that means some witchy looks. Besides black cats and crystal balls, crafty casters are reaching for witchy rings. Dark and dramatic or malevolent and mystic, these sterling silver rings are the perfect accessory for a hexcellent time.
The Coiling Serpent
A coiling serpent is powerful imagery and can represent many things. In Hinduism, Kundalini is a form of divine feminine energy, believed to be located at the base of the spine. Sometimes this is represented as a coiled serpent. This energy is seen as a sign of potential and possibility.
For the ancient Aztec and Mayan civilizations, serpents were often a symbol of fertility and power. Modern experts believe that the shedding of a snake’s skin was tied to this fertility connection. Snake sculptures adorned many pieces of their art, and snake imagery frequently adorned important or sacred places, such as the Main Temple in the Aztec imperial capital Tenochtitlan.
Many see the snake as a symbol of transformation. As snakes shed their skins and emerge in a fresh form, we can interpret this as a continuous growth and rebirth.
The Opulent Opal
Opals have one of the longest and most storied histories among gemstones. Originally considered one of the most important gems, opals with good play-or-color were considered to be especially powerful – as they could show all colors, people of the time thought this meant they carried the power of all gemstones.
Over time, however, this reputation shifted, and opals came to represent misfortune and bad luck if it was not your birthstone. Many attribute this shift in attitude to a popular novel, in which a character possessed an opal which was cursed.
There are two kinds of opals found in jewelry – fancy opals and common opals. Fancy opals are probably what you’re most familiar with. They’re the opals that show what we call play-of-color. That’s the kaleidoscope effect which can display a wide range of colors. At Shop LC, our most popular opal is Ethiopian Welo Opal, a type of hydrophane opal.
Common opals don’t show play-of-color, but they are available in a wide range of colors! A long-standing favorite is Oregon Peach Opal, a peachy pink gem. Common opals occur in a wide range of colors – pretty much any color imaginable!
Tantalizing Turquoise
No collection of witchy rings is complete without a turquoise ring. We love options like this elongated design, which creates a sense of movement with its north-south positioning. The artisan craftsmanship lends a boho vibe, perfect for conjuring compliments!
Turquoise is an ancient stone, known to many cultures. A stone of protection, many meanings are attributed to this sky-blue gem. Many Native cultures value turquoise. For them, it held meanings that could vary from tribe to tribe. Apaches consider it an “eye stone,” believing it to sharpen vison. Pueblo believe that turquoise helps one’s transition to the next life, and is used in funerary rites.
For many Arabic people, turquoise is a horse stone. Often used to adorn riding gear, turquoise is thought to help the rider stay in the saddle. Turquoise can also represent luck, good health, and protection from evil influence.
Fierce and Fiery Labradorite
Many already know Malagasy Labradorite, a cool greenish blue gem from Madagascar. However, Shop LC is offering a new find – Madagascar Fire Labradorite. This burnished gold gem is warm to the eye with a golden schiller effect. We love this gem for the golden glow it offers, like flames licking just beneath the surface of this stone.
Gem healers tell us that labradorite is a stone for warding off depression and anxiety. Certainly, with the glow of fire labradorite we can’t imagine having anything but a sunny day!
Thought to be a stone of power, labradorite is said to help us separate illusion from reality. Perfect for aiding us in the pursuit of goals, labradorite is believed to bring out the best in us while making us more relaxed in work.
Polki Diamond
Raw gemstones are one of the most sought-after jewelry trends and lends itself well to any collection of witchy rings. Polki diamond is traditionally used in Indian wedding jewelry but is becoming popular in many modern pieces.
These diamonds are captured in their raw beauty, though they may be lightly polished. Polki diamonds are frequently bezel set for the security of the stone. Artisans align the stones so that the best face-up color is achieved. This results in a stunning piece that works as a solo piece, or better yet, stacked with other unique rings from your collection.
