From Pinterest Predictions to Reality: Orange is Taking Over 2023 Weddings

Pinterest has an incredible ability to predict trends. The social site gets it right 80% of the time! So, color me surprised (or should I say burnt orange?) to learn that colors like terra cotta, copper, and burnt sienna are rising in popularity for the 2023 wedding season. But what about an orange engagement ring? You don’t even need to be a Longhorn to hook ’em, and here’s why!

When it comes down to it, the data doesn’t lie. Rusty hues will make a lasting impression this wedding season, and we’ll share some data and background on why this trend will be something to consider. Now, orange you glad you’re reading?

Orange Meaning

The color orange is often associated with various emotions, moods, and ideas. Some are a lot more common than others, however. These concepts are also applied to orange gemstones.

Orange Blossom Meaning

An orange blossom is a flower that grows on an orange tree and carries several symbolic meanings. It symbolizes purity, innocence, and good fortune at weddings and other special events. In the language of flowers, an orange blossom symbolizes happiness, hope, and joy. Some believe the sweet scent of orange blossoms can help bring good luck and chase away evil spirits.

Orange blossoms first became popular during the Victorian Era. Queen Victoria popularized the flower after decorating her wedding crown with orange blossoms, meaning that her marriage to Albert would be fruitful for the kingdom.

By the Numbers

When it comes down to it, Gen X and Millennials are driving this burnished russet trend. We’ve been observing orange gemstones trending upwards since 2020 and the boom in pumpkin spice gems. Still, Pinterest has some interesting numbers to share. The social sharing site analyzed searches from September 2020 through September 2022. Here’s what they found!

Pinterest says, “So long, something blue. Hues of terracotta, copper and burnt sienna will be frequent guests at weddings this year. Based on rising searches from Millennials and Gen X, you’ll see this smoldering color everywhere in 2023, from floral arrangements to bridesmaid dresses. And hey, if a big wedding isn’t your thing, you can-elope (sorry).”

With these numbers, it’s easy to see how orange stone engagement rings fit into this. The optimistic, adventurous, and energetic nature of orange jewels dovetails with the thrill of beginning a new life together and everything in store on that journey.

Orange Engagement Rings

However, not all experts agree. Brittany Siminitz shares in a recent editorial for JCK, “Don’t expect orange to be the subject of many a bride or groom’s wedding and engagement rings—color trends are too fleeting to warrant centerpiece status such as that—but one can predict it to show up among other wedding attire, including jewelry and accessories.”

I enormously admire her editorials. However, this time I’m breaking with her opinion. While I don’t think an orange gemstone engagement ring will knock down a more popular option like a traditional sapphire stone, I do see interest rising. Google Trend data shows shoppers are at least curious about what an orange engagement ring might look like.

And, when it comes down to it, there are three stones I have my eye on.

Orange Sapphire

Orange Sapphire Ring

This sapphire caught my eye with its vibrant color and juicy look. It captures that “golden hour” feel of the late afternoon before dusk takes over completely. Many of us already love traditional blue sapphires. Still, I find its opposite a charming entry all on its own, standing toe-to-toe with the stone of heaven. Of all the potential picks, my money is on orange sapphire engagement rings.

Orange Topaz

These days, we’re probably better acquainted with mystic topaz; it’s the OG of burnt orange gemstones. So, I’m glad to see it’s finally getting a moment. As a November birthstone, topaz meshes with the autumn vibes these coppery hues evoke. However, an orange topaz engagement ring would be a perfect choice for someone searching for an antique and classic style in their jewelry.

Orange Diamond is Coming

Now, for our dark horse. We already know that fancy diamonds occur in a broad spectrum of colors, including orange. However, we rarely see orange diamonds, let alone an orange diamond engagement ring. Thankfully, I have good news for you! On February 25, 2023, Shop LC is bringing you orange diamond jewelry. This is the first time in our history that we’re featuring orange diamonds, and I couldn’t be more excited. Stay tuned for more!
