How to Pack Jewelry

packing jewelry

Does this give you anxiety every time you try to pack your jewelry?

No worries, me too. In fact, I used to always dread packing my jewelry for any trips since it’s such a hassle. However, I developed some space saving ways to pack jewelry without the pain of tangles, things getting lost, or even damaged!

Be Minimalistically Realistic

Unless you are moving houses, you really do not need to bring your entire jewelry collection. So, be realistic with your choices! If you are really struggling with choosing which pieces of jewelry to bring, try packing all of your outfits first. Then, lay all of your jewelry out and choose the ones that match your outfit.

Find Multi-Functional Jewelry

If you are still struggling to decide which jewelry to bring, find multi-functional jewelry that can be worn with multiple outfits. You could also bring jewelry that can be worn in both formal and casual settings, which means you pack one less piece of jewelry.

For example, hoop earrings are the perfect way to jazz up any outfit without overpowering your outfit. The simpler the hoops, the better. That way, you can add a little sparkle to you without looking like you are trying too hard.

If you don’t have any ear piercings, you could try wearing pearl necklaces. They truly are perfect for every occasion!

Wear Your Valuable Jewelry

I always get anxious whenever I pack my most valuable jewelry, as I fear that the bag would get lost or stolen with my most sentimental pieces. Therefore, wearing your most precious jewelry decreases the anxiety of ever losing them.

By wearing your jewelry, it encourages you to only wear one or two pieces of jewelry, which decreases the amount of jewelry you bring to your trip.

Organize, Organize, ORGANIZE

Method 1: Transparency is Key

If you are on a budget, try packing each jewelry piece in their own  transparent baggie. That way, it will not tangle among each other, nor would you lose a pair of earrings in the mess. Use the smaller bags for your earrings and your bigger ones for your bracelets and necklaces.

If you are planning to layer necklaces for a more dramatic look, try pairing necklaces with various thickness. That way, you could still bag them up in one baggie, but the different materials would make it less likely to get tangled up.

Once you have finished separating your jewelry, put the baggies in a pouch. If you have a little more room in your suitcase, organize your jewelry with a set of matching pouches like these:

That way, you will immediately identify that the pouch is for jewelry. You will still be organized with the various shapes and sizes the set will often offer.

Method 2: Jewelry Holders

If you are a well-seasoned traveler, consider investing in a portable jewelry holder. These often fold up or roll up to save space in your travel bag without tangling up. If you are bringing a variety of jewelry, consider getting a multi-functional jewelry holder that rolls up like this one:

The roll-up jewelry holders are the most space efficient way to pack up your jewelry, as the holders will physically limit you from packing too much and force you to stay minimalistic.

However, if you have an extensive earrings collection like me, then you are probably trying to find a way to pack all your earrings that ensures you won’t lose any of them. Try going for an earring holder like this one, as the holes allow you to properly store your earrings without the fear of losing one earring. Plus, stacking them together will eliminate the fear of the earrings getting damaged. This is because the jewelry holder is designed to physically limit the movement of the jewelry and holds everything in place.

Cleaning It All Up

After you are done traveling, chances are, your jewelry might be a little nasty. To ensure they stay in the best condition, make sure to always clean your jewelry right when you get home.
