15 Ways to Look Younger Naturally (Here Are My BEST Tips)

When I first started my career as a beauty chemist, some of my male friends snickered a bit.

But a couple decades later and now they’re constantly asking me how to look younger naturally without going under the knife.

“Is there a night cream I can use to stay young?” “How do I get rid of my crow’s feet?” The questions never end.

But here’s the deal.

There are beauty products that can help you, but staying young even as you age requires a more holistic approach.

Is It Possible to Stay Young Forever?

As a beauty expert, I know a few secrets to looking younger.

I’ve worked with Cover Girl models, famous celebrities, and formulated anti-aging products for some of the most recognized names in the industry.

But today, I want to share with you insider secrets to looking younger that will help you look your best — instantly.

No, I’m not talking about a new miracle product.

I’m talking about a few simple lifestyle changes that can help you turn back the hands of time — quick and easy.

Find a Skin Care Routine That Works For You

Everyone wants to know how to get younger looking skin naturally — and that’s because your skin is the biggest indicator of your age.

But lucky for you, products for younger-looking skin are incredibly popular in the skin care market.

Dedicate a few minutes everyday for a proper skin care routine that will cleanse away impurities, exfoliate dead skin cells, hydrate and nourish the nourish the newly revealed skin cells.

If your goal is to look younger for longer, you absolutely NEED these products in your skin care routine:

  • Sunscreen: It doesn’t matter if you live in rainy Seattle or sunny South Florida – you need a sunscreen that works if you want to keep away the wrinkles. UVA rays are no joke.
  • Retinol: Retinol helps skin cells regenerate more quickly, promoting a fresh, youthful glow.
  • Vitamin C serum: Vitamin C is a fantastic antioxidant. It combats the free radicals that can potentially speed up your skin’s aging process.
  • Eye gel/cream: Perfect for targeting crow’s feet and dark circles.

Make Time to Practice Self Love

Self love is a relatively new concept, but humans have been practicing it forever.

When I think of self love, I think of the people who live past 100 and claim that their secret to a long life is eating bacon and smoking cigarettes.

But wait – how can THAT be?

If it has to do with taking the time out of your busy day to focus on your own happiness, that’s self love.

Maybe it’s playing a game of checkers with friends after work, reading in bed, or even getting a

strawberry milkshake every Sunday.

Self love is important to naturally looking younger than you really are because it gives you a chance to decompress and attend to your own needs (whether they be emotional or material).

Seriously. Don’t underestimate the power of treating yourself and enjoying your own company.

Self love helps you to remember that despite all the responsibilities you have everyday – being a mother, a coworker, a sister, a friend, a wife – you are still YOU.

(But unless you have fantastic genes, eating bacon and smoking cigarettes everyday probably shouldn’t be your self love activity of choice.)

Makeup – Less is More

Sometimes, women wear heavy makeup to look younger, thinking that a good foundation conceals wrinkles.

Instead, the result is a face caked in makeup, highlighting flaws instead of hiding them.

The trick to knowing how to use makeup to look younger is going for a more natural look.

Complement your natural shades and keep it light. Use a light foundation – one that will not sink into and highlight wrinkles. And remember to contour your face! Contouring brightens up your face and even makes you look thinner.

Dye Your Hair

Coloring your hair is a great way to hide the tell-tale signs of aging.

Choose a hair color to make you look younger, especially if your hair is becoming gray or dull.

If you can’t decide on a hair color, try one that’s close to your original color so it naturally complements your facial tones.

For a little more color, consider highlights or lowlights. They don’t require much maintenance.

Change Your Hairstyle

Getting a haircut is another great way to shave a few years off.

Why?

A lot of women seem to think that long hair makes you look younger because it’s reminiscent of little girls’ hair.

But to be honest, longer hair can actually make you look more tired and worn down.

On the other hand, cutting your hair eliminates the dry ends, creates a more bouncy look, and can improve your overall youthfulness.

Think about a style with side-swept bangs or a layered style to create a more lively, youthful appearance.

Refresh Your Wardrobe

Are you at a point where you’re doing everything you can to look younger short of going under the knife, but nothing really seems to work?

It might be your fashion choices.

Outdated clothes outdate YOU!

Clothes from the 80s and 90s may be en vogue right now, but people can tell if you haven’t updated your wardrobe in decades. It screams, “I’m stuck in the 20th century!”

And as your body changes, so should your wardrobe. Baggy clothes that may have been stylish when you were younger may just look frumpy on you now.

Wear outfits and prints that flatter your body type and help hide areas of concern. (Want to hide your stomach? A-line tops and dresses are your friend.)

Also, our skin tone becomes lighter and duller with age, so look for outfits with softer colors to match your complexion.

Get Your Beauty Sleep

You look younger when you’re well rested.

Seriously, it’s true!

Your body (and importantly, your skin) has a chance to rejuvenate itself when you sleep, so not getting your 7-8 hours of sleep every night is a sure way to make your skin look dull and lifeless — not to mention those heavy bags under your eyes.

With the right amount of sleep, you will wake up feeling and looking younger than you are — and you’ll be refreshed and ready to start the day.

Don’t Forget to Smile!

Stand up straight and be proud!

When you appear more confident and maintain a positive attitude, it makes you look younger.

Along with that positive attitude, be sure to smile. Smiles make your face look younger, especially when they’re blocking negative thoughts that can cause stress and wrinkles.

A smile changes your whole face and makes you look more radiant, distracting from areas that show your age.

You will be amazed at how fast people notice a difference in your appearance and with all the compliments you will receive.

Avoid Moisturizers with Polyunsaturated Fats

Every skin care routine needs a good moisturizer. But as always, read the ingredients label first.

When applied topically, polyunsaturated fats (also known as PUFAs) can actually speed up aging in the skin.

But how?

PUFAs makes the skin more susceptible to being exposed to free radicals – unstable atoms that can wreak havoc on the skin.

So when choosing a moisturizer, choose one with stable saturated fats instead.

Be Active Everyday

An extra spring in your step will always make you look younger.

And actually, regular exercise can slow your skin cells’ aging process!

This is how it works.

We all have chromosomes that control how we age. Those chromosomes have structures on their ends called telomeres.

As we get older, our telomeres become shorter. But with regular exercise, studies have shown that telomeres can actually lengthen, prolonging cell life!

Manage Your Stress

We all know by now that stress is just plain bad for pretty much the entire body. Incidentally, it also makes you look decades older.

Look –

When we feel emotionally, mentally, or physically stressed, our body releases a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is also associated with the fight-or-flight response.

But when we’re constantly stressed, it sends our cortisol levels haywire – like we’re in a constant state of fight-or-flight.

That can take a huge toll on the body, in both your medical health and your physical appearance.

High levels of cortisol can cause acne breakouts, weight gain around the midsection, and dry skin.

Stay Hydrated

Remember that woman who claimed drinking more water made her look 10 years younger on the Daily Mail?

Your results may not be THAT drastic if you’re already under 40, but staying hydrated is a must if you want a youthful complexion.

Over time our skin produces less collagen, which is key for smooth, plump skin.

Water flushes out toxins that can make your skin appear dull and dry. And in turn, water plumps and smooths out wrinkles.

The more chronically dehydrated you are, the bigger the impact drinking more water will have on your skin.

Pamper Your Hands

We all want to look younger, yet many of us neglect the skin on our hands – a dead giveaway for your true age.

The best thing you can do for you hands is moisturize them daily. After washing the dishes, during an arid day, or whenever your hands are dried out.

Probiotics

When it comes to fermented foods, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em.

But here’s something that may make you switch teams —

Probiotics, the healthy bacteria that lives in your stomach, can help you look younger for longer.

The probiotics in fermented food like sauerkraut and kombucha have antioxidant properties that are excellent for keeping your skin looking young, bright, and glowing!

In fact, probiotics can fight off the free radicals and toxins that cause our skin to wrinkle.

Limit Sugars and Processed Foods

If your diet consists of sugary drinks and processed foods, you can bet that your gut is being overrun by unhealthy bacteria, disrupting your body’s natural balance.

The preservatives in junk food can cause premature aging and inflammation in the skin.

And sugar?

Sugar can damage collagen, making our skin look more wrinkly.

The Key to Looking Young is Feeling Young

All it takes to stay young forever is a little beauty knowledge.
