THE ORIGINS OF PISCES GEMSTONES

For centuries, humans have felt a strong affinity between heaven and earth. In these early nights, it was said that the influence of these stars and planets penetrated deeply into our own plant, Earth. Various traditions state that wearing the correct jewel can offer protection, including Pisces birthstones. Read on to learn how these mysterious stones came to be!

WHAT IS THE PISCES BIRTHSTONE?

When it comes to birthstones, things can feel confusing. Zodiac signs transition between months, and Pisces start in February but ends in March. Which stone should I use? An amethyst or aquamarine?

One the of the earliest sources I consulted while researching the Pisces birthstone was The Curious Lore of Precious Stones, by G. E. Kunz. In his time, Kunz was a well-known gem expert, predating our modern understanding of gemology. Did you know that kunzite was named for him? Such was his influence on our understanding of gemstones.

In his writings, Kunz tells us that amethyst is the Pisces birthstone. Even before the modern birthstone list, many cultures identified amethyst as a birthstone associated with this time of year. Amethyst has been associated with the shortest month of the year since at least the 15th century!

We know amethyst as a stone of sobriety. While this reputation is most often associated with alcohol, this can also mean clear thinking. It is said to bring clarity to both conscious and unconscious thought. For Pisces, who often lives in a world of feelings, wearing amethyst reminds them to express themselves in a reasoned fashion.

Other Pisces birthstones you might consider are bloodstone (a type of jasper) or aquamarine.

PISCES BIRTHSTONE COLOR

For Pisces, the primary Pisces birthstone color is purple amethyst. This can range from the soft pastel hues of Rose de France Amethyst, all the way to the deep plum of Uruguayan material. In fact, there are many shades of amethyst jewelry to consider! Personally, I suggest Moroccan Amethyst. Known for its flashes of red, it is one of the most fascinating varieties. But every type of amethyst has something to offer!

For those choosing an aquamarine, the stone is found in a range of shades. There is the delicate frost of Espirito Santo Aquamarine, all the way down to the icy hue of Santa Maria Aquamarine. Which is better? Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal taste and preference.
